![]() ![]() The principal stresses involved in the failure processes are the principal stress and the principal stress ratio. The failure process is characterised by the closed-ended features, the stress triaxiality and the crack plasticity. It is found that the failure process in the studied granite and granodiorite specimens is brittle crack growth. These results are in agreement with the previous experimental and the theoretical investigations. It was found that the main mechanical properties of the granites tend to be higher than those of the granodiorites, the strength increases by 14-32% and the fracture toughness decreases by 4-23%. ![]() The behaviour of the main mechanical properties (strength, stiffness, fracture toughness and plasticity) of the granite and granodiorite rock specimens was analysed during a cyclic loading experiment. ![]()
